Colossus of Saint Charles Borromeo

Majestic statue of Saint Charles Borromeo in Arona

The Statue of Saint Charles was built in Arona, the birthplace of Borromeo, following his canonization to honor the greatness of the Milanese archbishop. For nearly two centuries, it was the tallest statue in the world.

Arona is home to several other sites connected to the saint’s life:
- The Rocca, where he was born, now a stunning panoramic park with the remains of the lost fortress.
- The Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Nascente, where he was baptized, adorned with priceless masterpieces.
- The Church of the Holy Martyrs, where he celebrated his last Mass before returning to Milan, where he passed away from fever on the evening of November 3, 1584.
